The Greatsword of Gloren The Bold

The Greatsword of Gloren The Bold was carried by the hero of the Twelve Duchies in battle against the kobold and goblin hordes that periodically swept down from the Senter mountain range. Gloren was recognized as one of the fiercest and finest warriors of his time and many were the battles he led against enemy forces. He eventually fell battling against the necromancer Nakatomi.

It is alleged that the powerful Nakatomi seized the sword as a prize and labored mightily to corrupt its magics. He was ultimately successful, perverting the wholesome humility that characterized Gloren into its opposite, negative, and boastful vice. The sword was recovered by Halgar of Yult (or, as many believe, "allowed" to be recovered) and taken to the Temple of The Morrigan. The priests of the temple were unable to remove the curse, and placed the sword in their vault. After the sacking of the temple by the Orcs of the Falcon Talon the sword's whereabouts vanished into myth.

The sword is bright silver and bronze, with runic devices carved into the blade and The Yult Owl device carved into the crosspiece, the Yult Owl being sacred to Gloren. The sword retains the following positive properties:

After the perversion of the magics by Nakatomi, the following negative properties are present:

As a cursed weapon the item cannot be given away, disposed of, sold, etc. The weapon must be used in preference to any other weapon. The curse can be broken for a given bearer with the Remove Curse spell, which would allow the bearer to unload the sword. The spell would not remove the actual curse on the weapon, and the next bearer would suffer all the benefits and limitations.
